Questions about Beraline

Short, honest answers about price, privacy, your data and how Beraline works. If something isn’t covered here, ask us.

Is Beraline free?

Yes. Beraline is free to use and nothing is behind a paywall today. A paid “Plus” option for extras may come later, but the core of Beraline will stay free. These features are free forever:

  • Daily logging of mood, habits and notes
  • Unlimited trackers
  • Month and year views
  • Stats that compare your trackers
  • Journal
  • Goals with steps
  • Book, game and film & TV trackers
  • Export of all your data
  • Deleting your account and everything in it
  • An image of your year or month to share

If Plus arrives, it will add extras on top of this list. It won’t take anything on this list away.

Is my journal private?

Yes. Your entries are stored on Google Cloud in London (europe-west2) under UK GDPR. Beraline has no ads and no analytics trackers, and your data is never sold. Database rules stop anyone else reading your entries, and Beraline’s admin view never shows them.

To be clear about the limits: Beraline doesn’t use end-to-end encryption. Your privacy rests on those access rules and on our policy, not on encryption that only you hold the key to. The privacy policy sets out exactly what is collected and who helps run the service.

Who can see my entries?

Only you, when you’re signed in. Your trackers, notes, goals and hobby logs aren’t public and aren’t shown to other users. If you join the leaderboard, which is off unless you turn it on, other people see only a random handle (like “Amber Otter 42”) and your streak, never your name or entries.

Some features talk to outside services from your browser: weather auto-fill sends your town and the date to Open-Meteo, and book searches go to Open Library. Film, TV and game searches are sent by our server. Your journal entries are never sent to any of them.

Can I export or delete my data?

Yes, at any time. In Settings, “Export my data” downloads a JSON file with your profile, trackers and their entries, journal notes, goals, books, games and watchlist. Deleting your account (also in Settings) removes everything from the live database straight away. Encrypted backups expire on their own within 14 weeks at most.

Is there an app?

Beraline is a web app you can install. It runs in any modern browser, and you can add it to your home screen or desktop so it opens in its own window like an app. It isn’t in the App Store or Google Play.

iPhone or iPad

  1. Open beraline.com in Safari.
  2. Tap the Share button.
  3. Choose Add to Home Screen, then tap Add.

Android

  1. Open beraline.com in Chrome.
  2. Tap the menu (three dots).
  3. Choose Install app or Add to Home screen.

Computer (Chrome or Edge)

  1. Open beraline.com.
  2. Click the install icon at the right of the address bar.
  3. Click Install.

Does it work offline?

No, Beraline needs an internet connection. Your entries are saved to your account rather than to the device, which is what lets the same line show up on your phone and your computer.

Can I import from Daylio?

Not yet. Importing from Daylio is planned but not available today, so for now you’d start a fresh line. If you’re weighing the two, the Beraline and Daylio comparison is honest about where each one is better.

What happens if Beraline shuts down?

You’d be told in advance, with time to take your data. You don’t have to wait for that, though: you can export everything from Settings at any time.

Is Beraline a medical tool?

No. Beraline is a journal and tracker for noticing your own patterns. It doesn’t diagnose or treat anything and isn’t a substitute for professional care. If you’re struggling, please talk to your GP or a mental health service.
